正确区分我们环境中甲烷的各种来源,能够有助于确定其在地层的来源,监控垃圾填埋场和养殖场的逸散性甲烷排放物,或区分在湿地中产生和消耗甲烷的生化途径。每一种甲烷源都具有13C与12C的特征比率。了解这一比率会有助于我们建立甲烷与特定本地源之间的联系。Picarro G2132- i 能够简便快速地精确测量甲烷中的碳同位素比率以及总的甲烷浓度,同时还能同步获得CO2和H2O浓度数据。
美国Picarro公司的C. W. Rella等将G2132-i、超声风速仪和GPS装载在车辆上组成移动试验室,利用在美国犹他盆地开展测量实验结果,提出了一种用于大气甲烷排放来源的综合方法。犹他盆地人口较少,除了石油和天然气开采活动之外几乎没有其他甲烷和乙烷来源,因此是研究和验证大气甲烷和乙烷新测量方法的理想地点。本研究对23口天然气井和6口油井分别进行了测量,同时对整个区域进行了采样测量,最终测量结果表明盆地约85±7%的排放来自于天然气开采。
